Job Description

La Unión del Pueblo Entero (LUPE) has one Community Outreach Specialist positions available for Hidalgo County based out of our Alton, Texas, office. The Outreach Specialist reports directly to the Special Projects Coordinator or designee. The Community Outreach Specialist promotes La Unión del Pueblo Entero services to low-income residents in Low Income neighborhoods. The Community Outreach Specialist will be responsible for helping LUPE families to obtain access to community services and resources.  The Outreach Specialist works with local providers of health and wellness services, schools, government agencies, low-income housing providers, local businesses, and a wide variety of community non-profit organizations to reach families, seniors and youth to create healthier communities.

Qualifications

LUPE seeks applicants who are fluent in Spanish. College degree required in Social Work, Health Education , Communications, Public Relations or related field. Commitment to the mission and ideals of the Farm Workers Movement/ Latino issues are essential and must exhibit interest in working with the low income and undocumented population in the Rio Grande Valley. A strong work ethic and excellent presentational and interpersonal skills are need. The ideal candidate would exhibit interest in working with the low income and undocumented population in the Rio Grande Valley.

About La Unión Del Pueblo Entero

La Unión del Pueblo Entero was founded by labor rights activist César Chávez.  LUPE builds stronger, healthier communities to enable colonia residents to use the power of civic engagement for social change.  We provide leadership development for community leaders to mobilize residents and offer social services to help families address their immediate needs as they work for social change. Over the last several years, LUPE has created a membership base of 7,000+ people in Rio Grande Valley. Thousands of these members have been assisted by LUPE’s social service providers and staff attorney with income tax and immigration related services. Additionally, LUPE organizers have trained over 250 colonia leaders who have organized house meetings to engage neighbor families on issues that affect their communities, developed advocacy campaigns, and articulated these issues to the media.  LUPE organizers actively work with colonia residents to develop campaigns for immigrant and neighborhood rights.
