LUPE Headquarters Low Impact Development Project

What we need:

We need 30 volunteers on to help us make our stormwater retention project a reality for our community! Help LUPE build an educational garden that will help colonia residents manage flooding in their properties by creating a stormwater bioretention pond with vegetated swales.

The session will be on Saturday, Feb. 6 from 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. at our office in San Juan (1601 E. HWY Bus 83, San Juan, TX). Wear comfortable clothes and comfortable shoes. For more information, call Tania Chavez at 956-648-0786.

Project Description:

[bc] proposes a small Low Impact Development (LID) pilot project at the LUPE offices. While this is a private lot, there is very high traffic on a day to day basis and colonia residents from across the valley come to LUPE for their extensive social services. A pilot project at this location would expose a large number of people to a more innovative approach to stormwater management. A project at this location could serve as a demonstration site and as a space for classes or workshops on how to successfully locate, construct and maintain a small stormwater retention project. View a sneak peek of the site plan.
