The 14th Annual Cesar Chavez March was a major success! With close to 1,000 participants and around 20 organizations joining, this year's march was one of our most engaging and energetic marches yet.

The Monitor's Mark Moreno captured the essence of Saturday's march in his write-up:

SAN JUAN – Community Resistance/Resistencia Comunitaria was this year’s theme at the 14th annual Cesar Chavez March on Saturday morning through the streets of San Juan.

“Yes, we can” and “we’re fighting for justice” were some of the chants shouted in Spanish by approximately 1,000 LUPE Marchers.

La Unión Del Pueblo Entero members marched almost two miles from San Juan City Park to the LUPE facility to commemorate founder Cesar Chavez’s birthday…

“We have people who are marching not only to defend immigrant families from deportations, but also from the wall.” said John-Michael Torres, Communications Coordinator for Lupe. “We don’t need our communities divided by walls and we don’t want our families divided by deportations.”

The Monitor photographer Joel Martinez captured the energy in this photo album at themonitor.com.

The annual march is a wrap, but the Community Resistance continues. With the new administration taking aim at immigrant communities for deportations and raids, and seeking to divide our communities with more border walls, it is more important than ever that we stay united and ready to act.
