By LUPE, January 15, 2015

County Commissioners and representatives sign their commitment to create a pilot program to begin installing conventional streetlights in Hidalgo County colonias and collect for the consumption of electricity.

County Commissioners and representatives commit to creating a pilot program to begin installing conventional streetlights in Hidalgo County colonias and collect for the consumption of electricity.

This is huge: Hidalgo County commissioners, with the leadership of Joseph Palacios, and pressure from LUPE and ARISE, took an historic step and committed to creating a pilot program to begin installing conventional streetlights in Hidalgo County colonias on a limited basis and collect for the consumption of electricity. They will present the pilot program in one month to the County Commissioner's Court.

The commissioners committed to working closely with LUPE and ARISE to make sure the pilot program meets the needs of colonia residents and serves as a spring board for a successful county-wide and comprehensive program to  bring streetlights to all Hidalgo County colonias in the future.

Commissioner Palacios committed to holding a meeting with one representative from each commissioner, judge and other players to begin the process of creating the pilot program. We expect to be part of this meeting.
