Immigration Attorney Debbie Cruz Abogada de inmigracion

Did you know that LUPE has a staff immigration attorney?

Debbie Cruz is native to South Texas and grew up in Donna, TX. She received her bachelor’s degree from St. Edwards University in Austin, TX and studied law at the University SMU Dedman School of Law in Dallas, TX.

While she was studying, she volunteered in an organization offering immigration services to low-income families. Her interest in immigration law arose because she grew up in a migrant family. Hearing all the injustices that farmer workers were suffering, she wanted to find a career in which she could help the migrant and immigrant community.

Debbie says, “I hope that during my time with LUPE, I can offer high quality legal representation to our members.”

LUPE has eight service providers trained in immigration casework. Four of our providers are accredited by the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA). Debbie serves all LUPE offices and oversees the work of all immigration service providers. She also takes consultations for members who have a family member that is detained by immigration authorities.

As part of LUPE’s Mano de Apoyo (Helping Hand) program, our Social Services Program responds to the social and economic needs of low-income people in South Texas in their struggle to overcome the barriers and challenges they face in their daily lives.
