Defend public benefits — Speak out against Trump's “public charge” rule change! #ProtectFamilies

The Trump Administration is proposing a rule change that would punish immigrants for caring for their health and well-being and that of their children.

Stand up for public benefits and against the Trump public charge rule.

Here is how you can take action:

Submit A Public Comment

Share your story! Share how public benefits have helped you and your family and speak out against the rule change on social media using the hashtag #ProtectFamilies. For example:

Public charge rule change: Restricting low-income immigrants, creating pay-to-play immigration process

The proposed rule would punish the use of certain public benefits, like health, nutrition, and housing programs, by immigrants seeking the stability of permanent legal status in this country. At the moment, the proposed rule change does not include benefits used by the immigrant’s US citizen children or spouse.

The rule change codifies classist discrimination into our immigration system by favoring higher-income immigrants while making it very difficult for individuals earning under $31,000 to receive legal status. The new rule is not in effect and will undergo a period of public comment and review.
