Executive Order GA-46 requires Texas hospitals to ask for information about patients' immigration status and report this aggregate data, along with the costs of care provided to undocumented patients. This decision is unfair and dangerous because it could scare people and prevent them from going to the hospital, even if they are very sick or injured.

By doing this, Governor Abbott could put lives at risk, causing people not to seek the medical care they need because they are afraid or worried about money. LUPE believes this law harms immigrant communities by making them feel scared and unwelcome.

Instead of dividing people, we believe leaders should make laws that help everyone feel safe and cared for, no matter where they are from. LUPE will continue to fight for immigrant rights and make sure our communities receive the support they need.
