As we reflect on the last day of Pride Month, we want to remind our community that Pride is not just one month, it is all year round. We recognize that this year has not been the kindest to our LGBTQIA+ hermanxs. This year alone, there have been 120 bills introduced nationwide restricting LGBTQIA+ rights–bills attacking access to gender affirming care, protection of trans youth, and more. The politicians in power in our state spew harmful disinformation and fuel hatred against our community to distract from their corruption. But we know the truth: we do not need anyone’s permission to exist, to love or to thrive.

This past Saturday, our 2nd Annual LUPE Pride Discoteca Celebration, was more than a groovy time, it was a joyful act of resistance and a homage to the Disco Scene that shaped our herstory. The evening was filled with delicious food, local queer vendors, and LGBTQIA+ orgs like the South Texas Equality Project, Under the Umbrella, Queer Artistry and many more. As Chulita Vinyl Club graced our ears with Gloria Gaynor's “I Will Survive” and our members vogued the night away as we celebrated International LGBTQIA+ Day and demonstrated queer resilience.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who showed up and showed out to celebrate, support and honor shares in struggle and joy. Queer resistance is unity. And a very special thanks to our LUPE Pride Comite whose love and dedication made this event successful. At LUPE we believe that todes are deserving of freedom, to live authentically, love unapologetically and thrive–no exceptions! The fight for our rights doesn’t end in June. We invite you to continue the fight for LGBTQIA+ rights and visibility, by becoming a LUPE member, joining our LUPE Pride Comite, or by contacting your local representatives to vote no against any anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation. ¡Aquí Estamos y No Nos Vamos!
