It is with immense pride and excitement that I bring you this special edition of our LUPE Newsletter. After a month's hiatus, following the devastating floods that impacted a majority of our community in the RGV, I want to highlight the strength and resilience of our community during these challenging times. I am extremely proud to call myself an RGV native through and through, and I am certain that everyone who participated in our 22nd Annual Cesar Chavez March last Saturday would share this same cultural reverence.
April 26th was more than a celebration—it was a declaration. A declaration of our roots, the legacy of our founders, Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta, and of our refusal to stay silent in the face of uncertainty. Our presence was loud, proud, and defiant. Because one thing is for certain, the RGV does not back down.
I invite you to read more about this powerful day, the stories shared, and the chants heard through the streets of Alamo-San Juan in this newsletter dedicated to all the trailblazers who accompanied us and made this event possible both in spirit and in presence. p.s be sure to stick around until the end of the newsletter for some exciting upcoming events. 👀 |
In solidarity, Estefania and the LUPE Team ❤️ |

Edna Elicerio, a strong woman, mother, and fearless community leader, has tirelessly championed LUPE initiatives, leading our Immigration Committee and taking a public stand against anti-immigrant legislation. Last year, she was awarded grand Marshall for her unwavering efforts in fighting for what all aspiring citizens deserve, to live freely and without the fear of being uprooted from their homes. We are more than grateful to have members with powerful stories to share. This 22nd Annual Cesar Chavez March, Edna shared a powerful testament to the reality of the exploitation workers experience at their workplace. |

This year, we were honored to have one of our own active LUPE members, Norberto Garza, serve as the MC for our 22nd Annual Cesar Chavez March. Norberto has played an integral role in may of LUPE's initiatives and actions, consistently showing up– from phone banks to protests– to advocate for the issues most important to our community.
At Saturday's march, Norberto led the crowd in powerful chants and was joined on stage by fellow compañerxs en la lucha, who each shared moving testimonies on critical issues such as healthcare, LGBTQ+ visibility, workers' rights, immigration, and education. Their stories powerfully reclaimed their narratives and highlighted the resilience of our community. Maribel, Ana, Francisco, and Caroline exemplified the importance of uplifting the voices of our pueblo.

Originally scheduled for March 29th, the march was postponed due to devastating floods that swept through our region. But even in crisis, our community didn’t stand still. LUPE members and volunteers immediately shifted into action—hosting town halls, canvassing colonias to assess needs, and leading rapid-response efforts.
To read more about our post flood efforts and how the RGV sprang into action following the March 27th storm, check out our volunteer appreciation post. |
