La Union del Pueblo Entero organized the 12th Annual March and Celebration in Honor of Cesar Chavez, Saturday, March 28. LUPE members, nonprofits, and community members joined the march, totaling more than 900 participants.
The crowd gathered in front of the farmworker murial at the San Juan Municipal Park at 9am. From there, the major march set out toward the offices of LUPE in San Juan, where the celebration continued with food, music, theater and folkloric dance.
The official theme was “Unidos Venceremos” or “United We Will Overcome.” We continue working for a just and comprehensive immigration reform, but this year the focus was on the president’s administrative relief programs, DAPA and DACA, which are being challenged by anti-immigrant state officials in the federal courts.
Whole families came out together to support the march. Senior citizens, youth, and children all went marching and chanting without tiring.
Joining the march where Mayor of San Juan Sanjuanita Sanchez, members of the Equal Voice Network, fellow colonia organization ARISE, as well as other community and student organizations that support the cause.
