What goes beyond the border wall and within detention centers is not what goes through peoples minds until there is a reason to. A reason that should not have occurred. 8 year old, Anadith Tanay Reyes Alvarez, a migrant from Panama, died in border patrol custody in Harlingen. Is it at times like these that the people and those in government positions look our way? Those who have gathered here on May 23rd are tired of holding vigil after vigil with the families and friends. La Unión Del Pueblo Entero, Arise, and ACLU Texas join the fight and we demand accountability and oversight of CBP and its abusive practices, so no more lives are lost.

Let us remember:

CLAUDIA PATRICIA GOMEZ GONZALEZ – 20 YEARS OLD – RIO BRAVO TEXAS

Died after being shot in the head by a Border Patrol agent on May 23rd, 2018. The ACLU of Texas filed a lawsuit on behalf of Claudia Patricia's family in May 2020

CARLOS GREGORIO HERNANDEZ VASQUEZ – 16 YEARS OLD – RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TEXAS

Died of Influenza at a Weslaco Border Patrol processing center, where he was detained for 6 days. He was never transported to a hospital and was found dead in his cell in May 20, 2019 after agents failed to conduct regular required wellness checks.

FELIPE ALONZO-GOMEZ – 8 YEARS OLD – EL PASO, TEXAS
