Release: City of Edinburg Ignores and Obstructs Petition Created to Allows Wage Increases

On August 15th, the Initiative for a Living Wage in Edinburg Faces Hurdles as City Obstructs Petition Created by Ground Game and LUPE Votes in 2022

What: The City of Edinburg has refused to accept the signatures of Edinburg residents collected by Ground Game and LUPE Votes. These signatures would lead to an initiative that aims to raise the minimum wage for all city workers and contractors to $15/hr, an effort to establish a livable wage for residents. This obstruction has prompted Edinburg residents to address the council and provide comments on the matter in support of LUPE, LUPE Votes, and Ground Game’s initiative.

When: Tuesday, August 15th, 2023 starting at 5:30 PM CDT 7:00 PM CDT

Where: City Hall-Council Chambers, 415 West University Dr. Edinburg, Texas 78539

Who: La Unión Del Pueblo Entero, LUPE Votes, Ground Game and Edinburg residents 

Visuals: Staff will assist in organizing and rallying individuals to speak at City Hall, where Edinburg residents will voice their concerns and emphasize the significance of the wage increase. A supportive crowd from LUPE, LUPE Votes, and Ground Game will be present to show solidarity.
