LUPE members of Colonia Sunny Skies celebrate their newly installed public street lights; after more than 30 years of being left in the dark, residents organized to lighten up their neighborhood.

What: Colonia Sunny Skies is celebrating the installation of public streetlights after more than 30 years of living in the dark. Residents of Colonia Sunny Skies came together under the guidance of LUPE organizers to petition for the right to safer streets through the installment of public streetlights. Now they are celebrating this accomplishment and looking forward to brighter tomorrow. 

When: Monday, September 18th, 2023 starting at 6:00 PM CDT to 8:00 PM CDT 

Where: 2551 Sunny Skies Rd, Brownsville, TX 78521

Who: La Unión Del Pueblo Entero and Colonia Sunny Skies residents 

Visuals: La Unión Del Pueblo Entero will be in attendance at the celebration as residents gather and celebrate with one another. Chants and speeches will be given throughout the event.
