On September 11th, La Unión Del Pueblo Entero Stands On Court Steps Before Trial On SB-1 Challenging Texas Voting Restrictions.
Today's hearing serves as a stark reminder of the hard-fought battles for voting rights. Texas's SB 1, currently under trial, threatens the voting rights of people of color and those with disabilities through burdensome voter ID requirements and restrictions on election officials. It also limits voter outreach and makes it harder for voters to seek assistance. Members of La Union del Pueblo Entero (LUPE) are taking action to defend democracy.
What: Trial starts in LUPE v. Texas, a consolidation of six lawsuits challenging various voting restrictions in S.B. 1 for violating federal law. The case is before U.S. District Judge Xavier Rodriguez.
When: Monday, September 11th, 2023 starting at 8:00 AM CDT to 9:00 AM CDT
Where: U.S. District Courthouse, 262 West Nueva Street, San Antonio, Texas 78207
