Rio Grande Valley community and allies condemn Trump visit to Alamo, TX

We organize because we value people over politics and publicity stunts. On Tuesday, Jan. 12, President Trump— with the help of the rogue and corrupt Department of Homeland Security— will hold a reckless and dangerous political stunt in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas.

At this point in time, we cannot in good conscience encourage community members to approach violent white supremacists who have no sense of what is right, what is moral, or what is the right side of history.

Instead, civil and human rights organizations in the Rio Grande Valley will host a rally and press conference. We invite community members, press, and supporters to join us to show the real face and story of the RGV. The details of the rally are as follows:

Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021
Rally at 12 PM CDT; press conference at 1 PM CDT
La Unión del Pueblo Entero Office
1601 Bus. 83, San Juan, TX, 78589
(corner of Cesar Chavez Rd. & Bus. 83)

Local public officials failed to have a unified strong message against Trump’s visit. This failure of leadership will now result in white supremacists freely rallying in our streets. We condemn this lack of leadership. Should any violence occur on Tuesday, all public officials who did nothing to stop this visit will be held accountable for their failure to respond to the concerns of the community.

Contrary to the racist and xenophobic messages by Trump about the southern border, we are a vibrant place where families and individuals of diverse backgrounds live together and organize for safer and healthier communities. We know how to keep our communities safe. We counter right-wing violence by creating communities where we can all thrive and live without fear. We do that by advancing an agenda of racial justice and solidarity.

Join us on Tuesday at 12 PM at our LUPE office in San Juan, TX, to show the true face and tell the real story of the Rio Grande Valley together.
