LUPE members will host a week of action Dec. 15 – Dec. 19 to launch the “Valle Fuerte, Valle Libre” campaign, a community-led initiative to protect immigrant families and workers from deportations.
What: La Unión del Pueblo Entero (LUPE) will launch our community-led campaign, Valle Fuerte, Valle Libre, organized by members who are ready to stand in solidarity against family separations across the Rio Grande Valley and the rest of Texas.
Valle Fuerte, Valle Libre will launch with a Week of Action with a variety of events and actions to condemn the separation of families and assert solidarity with the Pueblo.The goals are to install campaign yard signs in confirmed locations where ICE raids have occurred so the community has a visual reminder of the recent attacks and the distribution of Know-Your-Rights kits throughout Hidalgo County to educate the public about the campaign and their rights in case they face ICE. These tactics are geared towards amplifying the movement across the RGV.
Monday (12/15) – Press conference and Yard Sign installation

Press Conference at LUPE San Juan at 9:00 AM. LUPE staff and committee members will come together to condemn recent raids and share testimonies about the campaign’s goal to end family separation. Following the press conference, yard sign installation will be carried out throughout Hidalgo County.
Tuesday (12/16) – Cameron County Commissioners Court Visit and Know-Your-Rights Kit Distribution

Cameron County will be voting on signing onto a state-mandated 287g agreement, a program that increases collaboration between local agencies and immigration enforcement at 9:30 am. LUPE members and community partners will be in attendance to ensure the county votes in the best interest of all Cameron County families.

Thursday (12/18) – Nativity Scene Traveling Exhibition and KYR Kit Distribution.

Traveling exhibition of an incarcerated nativity scene to symbolize the impact of family separations on our community. The exhibition will begin at the San Juan office and drive to various locations throughout the day starting at 10:00 am. Distribution of kits throughout Hidalgo County with the help of Immigration Committee members.
Friday (12/19) – Vigil in support of immigrant families.

The Week of Action will conclude with a peaceful vigil at 6:00 pm. This vigil is open to the public.
