Release: LUPE TO HOST PRESS CONFERENCE DURING DACA ORAL ARGUMENTS

The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments for Texas v. United States in New Orleans on July 6, 2022, on the legality of DACA after last summer's ruling by US District Court Judge Hanen

WHAT: La Unión del Pueblo Entero (LUPE) will host a press conference with current and former DACA recipients. They will share their personal experiences with the deferred action program and what the future of DACA means for the Rio Grande Valley.

WHEN: Wednesday, July 6, 2022 from 9:15 AM – 10 AM CDT

WHERE: LUPE Headquarters, 1601 US Bus. 83, San Juan, TX 78589 (Corner of Cesar Chavez Rd. and Bus. 83)

WHO: Speakers include Joaquin Garcia, director of organizing at LUPE; Abraham Diaz, former DACA recipient and current LUPE staff member; Karina Hernandez, current DACA recipient and LUPE staff member. All speakers will be available for individual interviews in English and Spanish. 

VISUALS: Speakers will present in English and Spanish at a podium in front of a historic mural outside of our LUPE office. A group of supporters will also be present with signs of support for the DACA program and demands for a pathway to Citizenship for the 11 million undocumented immigrants.
