Important Legal Notice

You may be eligible to recover money or receive other benefits if:

(1) A member of your family was a member of LUPE in 2008; and
(2) A member of your family applied for FEMA disaster assistance after Hurricane Dolly.

If both of these are true, CALL Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid at 866-757-1570 no later than June 1, 2017 for more information.

People who were members of the community organization La Union del Pueblo Entero (LUPE) in 2008 may be eligible for money or benefits from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). This relief is the result of a recent decision by a federal court in Brownsville, Texas.

In 2008, LUPE and individual homeowners filed suit against FEMA after the agency denied the disaster assistance applications of thousands of homeowners whose homes were damaged by Hurricane Dolly. In February 2017, after an eight-year legal battle, the Court ruled in favor of LUPE and against FEMA.

Now LUPE members from 2008 may be eligible for money or benefits if they or someone in their household applied for FEMA assistance after Hurricane Dolly.

LUPE and the homeowners are represented by attorneys from Texas RioGrande Legal Aid, Inc., (TRLA) including Jerome Wesevich. TRLA is a non-profit law firm based in Mercedes that provides free legal services to more than 20,000 Texans annually.

To determine eligibility for benefits, LUPE members should call TRLA toll-free at 866- 757-1570 no later than June 1, 2017.
