about the cumbre

At the Cumbre de Colonias, LUPE members gather to prioritize the issues that we will tackle over the next two years. The democratic process beings in juntas caseras (house meetings) in our members' neighborhoods where they decide the most critical issues impacting their lives. Then, our community organizers compile all of their lists to define the top priorities. Finally, the top issues are turned into resolutions, which are formally passed during the Cumbre.

The 2022 Cumbre de Colonias was no different, and on October 21st, L.U.P.E members passed 8 resolutions which highlighted the priorities the community would focus on for the next two years.

This year, following our commitment to inclusivity, we're transforming Cumbre de Colonias into Cumbre de Miembros to include our ENTIRE membership base.

Focus Groups

We are hosting a number of focus groups to ensure that we stay true to our commitment of inclusivity. By gathering direct input from members we can identify the most pressing issues affecting our membership. In turn, the information that we gather in these focus groups will be accumulated into a report and reviewed by our member Delegates.

Member Delegates

The Delegate Committee is comprised of member leaders who actively participate in LUPE's campaigns and programs, representing a diverse range of demographic backgrounds. The role of the member delegates is a crucial leadership responsibility for the Cumbre, as they will determine the number of resolutions to be presented based on their popularity and other strategic considerations. These resolutions will then be formally presented and voted on at the Cumbre.

Member Voting PRocess

After all the resolutions are presented during the Cumbre, members can begin casting their votes for the resolutions they support. The number of votes each members had is equivalent to the number of resolutions LUPE will formally adopt, as decided by the member delegates. Every present member with a valid membership can participate in the voting process.

On our way to the Capitol

After the Cumbre and once resolutions have been formally adopted, LUPE staff and members should begin meeting with state legislators and other stakeholders to share the outcomes of our Cumbre and ask for their support in advancing our agenda in the state's upcoming legislative session.
